“ENDEAVOUR” Class J (1934)

Description

Model numbered – delivered with a certificate of authenticity.

Charles Nicholson, famous English naval architect (Velsheda…) launched Endeavour in early 1934 at Gosport. The shipyard’s century-old expertise enabled Endeavour to be built in just 4 months, and she was launched on April 16, 1934: steel plate hull and 2400 meters of Canadian pine battens for the deck, fitted with “rowing” deck winches.
From the very first regattas, Endeavour outdistanced Britania, Astra, Candida, Shamrock V and Velsheda; she took part in the 1934 America’s Cup in Newport (USA), but was beaten by Rainbow. In 1984, Elisabeth MEYER bought Endeavour’s hull and undertook her restoration (as she did for Shamrock V); Endeavour was relaunched on MAY 20, 1989 and sold to an American yatchman. 39.56 m overall length, fitted with a 50.29 m mast and 794 m2 of upwind sail area with genoa.
